Short title | Bury Village ferry, River Arun |
Full description | Bury Village ferry over the River Arun. Ferry in foreground with Bury village in background across the river. Buildings include the Church of St John the Evangelist with spire, houses, and farm buildings. The woman operating the ferry is probably Ada Marshall who in the early 1900s took over as ferrywoman from her mother Jane Shepherd. Ada is wearing long sleeves and long skirt, and is standing in the boat holding a punt pole. The ferry continued to operate until the mid-1950s. |
