Full description | Boxing match, Crawley Down. Boxers Jack Randall and Martin the Baker face each other with fists raised as they take part in a prize-fight at Crawley Down on September 11th 1821. The two boxers are stripped to the waist and wear below-the-knee breeches and long socks. Randall's seconds, Tom Jones and Harry Holt, and Martin's seconds, Tom Spring and Thurtell, also stand in the open-air ring. A large crowd of men are shown in the background, some sitting and standing on top of horse-drawn carriages. Randall won the bout in the first round.
