Short title | Manor House, Bognor Regis |
Full description | Manor House, Bognor Regis. View looking north east showing the side and front of a building known as Manor House, with the Beach Inn visible in right background. Originally owned by Richard Dally, Lord of the Manor of Aldwick, the House was situated a short distance back from the sea between the hotel and Waterloo Square. Partsd of the building were incorporated into the Royal Hotel built in 1888. This is one of two images forming a stereoscopic photograph. Stereoscopic cameras came into fashion in the UK after being displayed at the Great Exhibition of 1851, when Queen Victoria ordered her own viewers and pictures. The technique, then in its infancy, involved taking two simultaneous exposures of the same image, which when viewed together using a stereoscopic viewer appeared in 3D. The 3D effect was most successful if the image had a strong feature in the foreground and a full range of features from mid-ground backwards.
