Short title | Stamp House, North Bersted, Bognor Regis |
Full description | The Stamp House, North Bersted, Bognor Regis. Interior view showing room decorated with "serpents" or garlands of postage stamps hanging around a bust probably of King George V as the Prince of Wales. The decoration using stamps was begun in Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee year, 1897, when Richard Sharpe, landlord of the Rising Sun Pub, accepted a wager to decorate one room entirely with stamps from his collection. Over the following years, stamps were added to other rooms and the building became known as the Stamp House. |
