Full description | Stamp House, Chichester Road, North Bersted, Bognor Regis. Man with three dogs stands in road looking towards the Rising Sun pub. Several men stand in forecourt. Horse-drawn cart on left. Painted on gable "Jubilee Stamp House, Lloyds News, Best Sunday Paper". The building became famous for its rooms decorated with postage stamps. The decoration using stamps was begun in Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee year, 1897, when Richard Sharpe accepted a wager to decorate one room entirely with stamps from his collection. Over the following years, stamps were added to other rooms and the building became known as the Stamp House. Postcard with publisher's number 67784 JV (Valentine's). |
