| Full description | Opening of waterworks, Fontwell. Directors of the Water Company and other officials pose for a photograph at the opening of the waterworks at Fontwell. Wells at two earlier sites in Bognor and South Bersted were exhausted or became tainted with sea-water, so a well to provide water to Bognor was established further inland. Most of the men have side-whiskers, moustaches or beards and wear or hold hats.
