Full description | Richard Cobden's Grave, West Lavington Churchyard. Cobden (1804-1865), born in Heyshott near Midhurst, was an believer in free trade and in economic non-intervention by the government. In 1838, he became one of the founding members of the Anti-Corn Law League in Manchester. Robert Peel PM, in 1846, acknowledged Cobden's role in the repeal of the Corn Laws. |
