Full description | Priest's House, St Nicolas churchyard, Itchingfield, near Horsham. Close view of small timber-framed house with brick walls and stone roof, situated in the churchyard of St Nicolas Parish Church. The eastern two bays of this very small open hall house were built around 1500 and the western bay was added around 1620. It was heated by a smoke bay which survives unaltered. Architectural information kindly supplied by Diana Chatwin. The house may have been used by travelling priests from Sele Priory, and became an almshouse in the 16th century. |
