Short titleSouthwick Green
Full descriptionSouthwick Green, looking north towards the South Downs in the background. The lower building on the extreme left on the south corner of Church Lane has since been demolished but Ivy Lodge, the house second from the left with the taller roof, remains. A thatched cottage known as the Green or King Charles Barn can also be partly seen on the left. Another group of cottages at centre left probably includes the old forge (no longer standing). The buildings at centre right (also no longer standing) are at the site of Hope Cottage at the bottom of Roman Crescent. Two small bridges can be seen crossing a stream which runs across the green. The painting is dated on the back: 5th Oct. 1849, but is unsigned.
